Route Description
A 46.8 km paved road loop from Mernda Station, heading north through Whittlesea before climbing into the wooded hills on Humevale Road. The winding ascent is the centrepiece: settle into a steady rhythm through the bends, then turn back towards Whittlesea on the Whittlesea–Yea Road descent and retrace the southern approach to Mernda. Expect about 400 metres of climbing across the ride.
Whittlesea is the practical food-stop town, with Lady Sevin Café and Whittlesea Bakehouse close to the route. The red-brick courthouse makes a short heritage detour. Take enough food and water for the hill section; the top of Humevale Road is a road junction, not a serviced summit café or lookout.
This is an on-road ride shared with motor vehicles, including the Plenty Road approach and the Whittlesea–Yea Road return. Keep the descent controlled, leave the traffic lane before stopping and check weather and road conditions before setting off. The loop finishes back at Mernda Station; check train services and disruptions if travelling by rail.
